Each week a different young artist from our Young Artists Collective leads a session, sharing their choreographic research with other young people. This is an opportunity for participants to experience cutting edge, emerging choreographic practice from the next generation of dance artists.
This lab draws from Company Concentric's current choreographic research – an experience of fluidity in all its forms. Firstly, a warm-up co-led by Yanaëlle Thiran and Shivaangee Agrawal will help you tune in with your body and refine your musicality. It will combine floorwork phrases and travelling tasks with elements of Bharatanatyam. We will then dive in a choreographic research directly inspired by 'Wa(i)ving Borders', the company’s work in progress on the theme of water borders. Using large pieces of fabric as props, we will embody what seas mean to our cultural identities. Accompanied by pianist Michaella Livadiotis, we will find ourselves on the same wavelength as other people in the space, thereby strengthening our listening and partnering skills. The live sound and props will also be our partners, available for playful interactions and poetic meaning-making. By the end of the lab, we will have explored a fluid movement quality within and beyond the body, enabling us to create clear contact, spontaneous responses to live music and powerful prop play.
Tickets are £5, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place.
