The third event in our Transparencies series at Siobhan Davies Studios sees Siobhan Davies open up her private choreographic practice to a live audience. In the company of visual artist and filmmaker Sam Williams, the pair attempt to unpack how others artists have developed methodologies for collecting and making.
For many years, Davies has gathered photographs, texts and images printed on transparent paper. Each of these images has its own story and connections, but Davies’ exploration has uncovered fascinating and unexpected relationships.
This evening will see the duo take particular inspiration from French filmmaker Chris Marker’s film Immemory (1997), as an example of how one artist juxtaposes and layers footage and imagery in their practice. In its original manifestation Immemory was an interactive work that was navigated by its audience. Selected sections of Immemory will be screened at the event as a topic for discussion.
