Zinzi Minott’s new work is an archive of Black dance. Zinzi will work over the coming months to create this archive through working with 30 contributors as well as archived film footage. This material will support the formation of a 1-hour-long movement solo which will be performed over 24 hours by Zinzi. This 24-hour solo dance piece will be performed alongside a film score created by Joi Productions.
This work is commissioned and produced by Siobhan Davies Dance and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art as part of the CONTINUOUS programme, and will premiere at BALTIC in April and will go on to present at other galleries around the UK before international touring.
Zinzi is looking for artist contributors who can enrich the archive with contributions of one minute of movement material that is valuable to them. This can be movement that you have created or learned from someone else, or you can suggest some material from a historical source. It can be from a piece of choreography or another dance practice.
