What is Next Choreography?
Next Choreography is a two-term course by Siobhan Davies Dance for 16-24 year olds keen to explore choreography within and beyond dance. Through weekly evening sessions in term time, participants experiment with different choreographic approaches and play and test ideas to create their own work.
Through the course participants study choreographic approaches from a diverse range of artists and makers, exploring choreography across dance and art forms.
Participants have time in the studio to explore and experiment with choreographic approaches, working as a collective, in small groups and on individual ideas.
Participants share insights from the course, work-in-progress, and performance through the Next Choreography festival held at the end of the two terms.
Who should apply for the course?
Anyone aged 16-24 years who is interested in making their own choreographic work and keen to explore and experience different ways of working, participants do not need to have dance training but should be keen to explore choreography from a range of perspectives.

“I valued all the encouragement I received in the really supportive learning and working environment at SDD, which made me more confident in my own abilities as a performer and maker of choreographic works. I learnt that my understanding of and approach to making work is valid and worth pursuing. It was great meeting the others who came to the course interested in the same thing, but looking at it from very different individual angles” - Participant
