Freedom School: Collective Movement Practices for and by People of Colour is a series of gatherings that experiment with modes of moving, learning, becoming, and organising together for dance practitioners of colour.
Beginning with the question, “how do we want to move now?,” the series is an invitation to reckon with our collective desires to build the tools and knowledge for liberation from oppressive institutions and practices in a world transformed by the pandemic as well as the global uprisings against anti-Blackness and state violence. Intentionally open-ended, the gatherings will be organised as spaces of emergence where we create with one another the programmes we want for freedom school.
Practices of the Nows / Practices for the Futures is the first gathering for Freedom School. In this virtual gathering, we will centre and learn from the organising works of Black dance artists in tandem with the resistance movement at large, and collectively envision a freedom school we want.
