Igor and Moreno is a London based contemporary dance company, directed by Igor Urzelai (1983, San Sebastian) and Moreno Solinas (1987, Sardinia). Since forming in 2012, the works have toured extensively across Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa, and have been met by public and critical acclaim. The company has been nominated for awards such as the Total Theatre Award for Dance and the National Dance Awards, as well as being promoted in numerous international dance platforms including Aerowaves, National Italian Dance Platform and the British Council Showcase.
Following on from Idiot-Syncrasy (2013), their first choreographic venture which uses jumping – both literally and metaphorically – to explore our capacity to persevere, care and hope, the company presented A Room For All Our Tomorrows (2015), which is a duet that explores the secret lives we all possess when we are close to others. There most recent work, Andante (2017), featuring 4 dancers, is an invitation to pause and to connect with your senses in a room filled with smoke and scent.
The company’s work is characterised by an interest in the moving body and the immediacy of action as a vehicle for meaning, ideas and desires. It wants to reclaim the role of the theatre as a place for assembly whilst exploring the cathartic properties of live performance. Across all works, Igor and Moreno has always tried to create a frame to share views without dictating a single reading, instead creating space for reflection for the viewer.
Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2009. They co-founded award-winning collective BLOOM! Dance Collective (2010) as well as Hiru Dance Org (2012); and they have choreographed commissioned works as both individuals and under Igor and Moreno.
